A thing, such as a toolkit, design methodology or property, that is used to create or to generate other things. For example, with properties we may try to design a system that is synchronous, or one with consistency. Typically there are many systems that satisfy the property (or could be produced using the toolkit or methodology), and if we asked different practitioners, each one would take the same property and create a different final system. This makes it very hard to evaluate a generative artefact, but that does not mean it is impossible to validate them.
